Gallia County pictures

These pictures are from an album which belonged to my grandmother's sister and her family lived in Gallia County for many generations back. The pages were sent to me by my mother's cousin who has recently passed away. He had them for years and did not know anything about the content or people in the pictures. Unfortunately there are no names on the back and only a few names or writing on the borders of the pictures. My hope is to have any of the people in the pictures identified so that I can reunite the original photos with a family member.

I am also adding photos from my grandmother's album and some loose ones in a a box that belonged to her. A few are named. What a treasure to find these pictures...a part of history.

And then I am including a few pictures which I can identify and had belonged to my grandmother. Those pictures will have names.

Lots of pictures

Some of these little pictures look to be more recent than some of the others in this collection. Still...I don't know any of the names or faces here.

If anyone would like to see a close up of one of these photos, let me know and I will email it to you.

Three pictures

Picture #1: Happy Days
Picture #2 on left: Catch us
Picture #3 on right: like me
These are still from the Gallia County album.

Group picture

Here is one of those great finds: names written on the back.
Nellie Hoover, May Troth, Grace Radekin, Bessie Gooch,
Debbie Gooch, Ed Radekin, Luther Radekin, Newt Radekin

Two boys

On the back of this picture is written:
Christmas 1920
Would you know us if you would meet us on the street?

Old farmer

Look at this old farmer and his haystacks. Winter on his Gallia County farm.

This is Charles Newberry Gooch who died in 1921.  His 90 farm was located on Eagle Road.

Old man seated

This is a great picture...if only I knew who he was! And I cannot tell if he is holding a sign or if it is part of the chair. It is not possible to tell if there is writing on the sign/paper. And I can see a bottle on the gound next to the chair...medicine? whiskey? Some pretty scuffed shoes. Anybody know him?

Man & woman and large building

This one is such a mystery! Surely the large building should be a clue as to where exactly this photo was taken. And I wonder how heavy her hat is!

I now believe this photo came from Muncie, Indiana as it was found in the pages of the Bible belonging to Rev. Isaac Langdon of Muncie, formerly of Lawrence and Gallia Counties.

Three girls

From the style of clothing, I would estimate the time frame for this photo to be around 1910-1915.

Debbie Gooch on the left, but who are her friends?

Addie Glenn

This picture does have a name: Addie Glenn

Family Reunion

This looks like a family reunion. Does anyone recognize the place or any of the people?

A really big horse

I wish I knew what little girl was sitting on the huge horse. What a great horse and buggy...does anyone know what time frame this would be, when the horse and buggy era ended?

Some girls and a monument

Don't you love the backdrop in the first picture? Is the monument from Gallia County or perhaps a road trip?

Boy and Dog

Honestly, if I didn't know better I would have thought this came from Our Gang movies! But this was taken somewhere in Gallia County.
