Gallia County pictures

These pictures are from an album which belonged to my grandmother's sister and her family lived in Gallia County for many generations back. The pages were sent to me by my mother's cousin who has recently passed away. He had them for years and did not know anything about the content or people in the pictures. Unfortunately there are no names on the back and only a few names or writing on the borders of the pictures. My hope is to have any of the people in the pictures identified so that I can reunite the original photos with a family member.

I am also adding photos from my grandmother's album and some loose ones in a a box that belonged to her. A few are named. What a treasure to find these pictures...a part of history.

And then I am including a few pictures which I can identify and had belonged to my grandmother. Those pictures will have names.

Ohio State Sanitorium

The OSS was officially dedicated 27 October 1909.  These pictures cover some of the years between 1910 and 1916

"The road to the Sanitoruim"

"The Shacks"  This is where the staff and workers lived.

Looks like cattle were raised by the institution.  Certainly a lovely, pastoral scene.

Thisis actually a post cord and the writing on the front is part of the post card.  Unfortunately it is glued down on the album paper.

This looks like a play or some sort of production.

What kind of office would this be?  The man looks rather important...maybe the director?
Do you see the telephone with the accordian-type mechanism so that it can be pulled to other parts of the office?

This seems to be a greenhouse.  I have another picture of the inside but will not include it as I would rather show people's faces in the next pictures.

My grandmother told me that she worked here with other girls (maybe guys too) from Gallia County prior to 1916.

Looks like they had some fun too!

Do you see the man looking out the window?

Is this a tunnel?
